LOCATION

The area is almost completely surrounded by water from the Great Wicomico River. The abundance of waterways, quiet lifestyle, and cooperative climate make it one of the leading areas in Virginia for relocation and retirement.

In 1648, Northumberland, sometimes known as the  “Mother County of the Northern Neck”, was organized and named after County Northumberland, England. Today Northumberland County is comprised of 222 square miles and a population of around 12,400.

In addition to its natural beauty, the area is also home to active local chapters of the Native Plant Society, Audobon Society, Master Gardeners and Naturalist Societies, fantastic history musuems, and excellent shopping.
